Ernesto Jose Blanco, MD, FAAP
Pediatric Endocrinologist
Dr. Ernesto Jose Blanco is a pediatric endocrinologist within the Division of Endocrinology at Nicklaus Children’s. He earned his medical degree from Universidad Central del Caribe in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Dr. Blanco completed a residency in pediatrics at State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook in Long Island, followed by a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at the same institution. His clinical interests include growth disorders, type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus and pubertal disorders.
Before joining Nicklaus Children’s, Dr. Blanco played a pivotal role in developing the pediatric endocrinology program at Broward Health Medical Center, where he established neonatal hypoglycemia and pediatric diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) protocols that enhanced patient care and safety. He also served as medical director for Camp Coral Kids, a summer day camp for children with Type 1 Diabetes, where he coordinated medical care and provided diabetes education for campers and their families. In addition, Dr. Blanco held adjunct volunteer teaching faculty positions at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine and Nova Southeastern University, educating medical students and residents in pediatrics and pediatric endocrinology.
Dr. Blanco is board certified in general pediatrics. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He has contributed to the field of pediatric endocrinology through peer-reviewed publications.
Dr. Blanco is employed by Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists (NCPS), the multispecialty medical group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System.
The Division of Endocrinology at Nicklaus Children's Hospital offers a complete array of diagnostic, treatment and consulting services for infants, children and adolescents with endocrine disorders. The care team is dedicated to fulfilling the medical and support needs of children and their families through a multidisciplinary approach that has helped children from around the world. Consultations with the division’s board-certified endocrinologists are offered at the hospital’s main campus near Coral Gables, as well as at select Nicklaus Children’s outpatient centers located from southern Miami-Dade to Martin counties.
