Debora Duro, MD, MS
Medical Director, Intestinal Rehabilitation Program 
Dr. Debora Duro is a board-certified pediatric gastroenterologist and serves as medical director of Intestinal Rehabilitation Program within the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology at Nicklaus Children’s. She earned her medical degree from Pontificia Universidade Catolica do Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Dr. Duro completed a master of science in Dietetics and Nutrition at Florida International University in Miami. Dr. Duro completed a pediatric residency and research fellowship at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. She then pursued a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition at Harvard Medical School/Boston Children’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. Her clinical interests include intestinal rehabilitation, home parenteral nutrition and nutrition support, pediatric endoscopy and colonoscopy, g-tube feeding and blenderized diet, plant-based nutrition, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), celiac disease, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), abdominal pain and pediatric lifestyle medicine.
 
Dr. Duro also serves as an associate professor of clinical pediatrics at Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and NOVA Southeastern University’s Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine.
 
Dr. Duro is board certified in pediatric gastroenterology. She is an active member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine and North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition (NASPGHAN), where she currently serves as chair of the Culinary Medicine Special Interest Group, which she established within the NASPGHAN society. Dr. Duro is certified in plant-based nutrition through the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Students at Cornell University. Her work has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals and she has presented at numerous national and international medical conferences.
 
In her role as medical director, Dr. Duro is responsible for setting the strategy of the Intestinal Rehabilitation Program, as well as overseeing clinical care, quality metrics, teaching, research and fiscal planning.
 
Dr. Duro is employed by Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists (NCPS), the multispecialty medical group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System.
