Adriana Carrillo Iregui, MD

Dr. Adriana Carrillo Iregui is a pediatric endocrinologist and serves as medical director of the Diabetes Center, part of the Division of Endocrinology at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. She also acts as a clinical associate professor of pediatric endocrinology at Florida International University/Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. Dr. Carrillo earned her medical degree from Universidad El Bosque in Bogota, Colombia. She completed a residency in pediatrics at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Dr. Carrillo then pursued a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. Her clinical interests include Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity, metabolic disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and thyroid cancer.
 
Dr. Carrillo is board certified in general pediatrics and pediatric endocrinology. In her role as medical director of the Diabetes Center, Dr. Carrillo is responsible for fostering innovative program development, overseeing clinical diabetes research, leading the implementation of quality improvement projects and developing educational initiatives for patients affected by Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and their families. Some of the research projects for which Dr. Carrillo is currently involved as lead investigator include racial disparities and factors that influence diabetes control in a high-risk cohort of youth with diabetes and TrialNet’s Pathway to Prevention screening program for Type 1 diabetes. Her work has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Carrillo has presented at medical conferences and is frequently interviewed by the media as a subject-matter expert on topics related to pediatric endocrinology and diabetes in children and teens.
 
Dr. Carrilo is a member of the Endocrine Society, American Diabetes Association and International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes. She has been a board member of Breakthrough T1D’s South Florida Chapter since 2018 and was appointed vice president of the board in 2024. Dr. Carrillo serves as a mentor to medical students and fellows and is also involved in various community advocacy initiatives.
 
Dr. Carrillo is employed by Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists (NCPS), the multispecialty medical group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System.
 
The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at Nicklaus Children's Hospital offers a complete array of diagnostic, treatment and consulting services for infants, children and adolescents with endocrine disorders. The care team is dedicated to fulfilling the medical and support needs of children and their families through a multidisciplinary approach that has helped children from around the world. Consultations with the division’s board-certified endocrinologists are offered at the hospital’s main campus near Coral Gables, as well as at select Nicklaus Children’s outpatient centers located from southern Miami-Dade to Martin counties.
